The University of Houston (UH) is a state research university and the flagship institution of the University of Houston System. Founded in 1927, UH is the third-largest university in Texas with nearly 44,000 students. Its campus spans 667 acres in southeast Houston, and its more than 300 undergraduate and graduate programs are offered through 13 academic colleges and schools. It is a Tier One university as designated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, and its undergraduate program is ranked No. 174 among national universities by U.S. News & World Report for 2020.
