The University of Malaga (UMA) is a public university located in the city of Malaga, Andalusia, Spain. Founded in 1972, it is the fourth-largest university in Andalusia with over 40,000 students. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide variety of disciplines including engineering, business, law, humanities, and natural sciences. The UMA has been ranked among the top 100 universities in Spain and is internationally accredited by several organizations including the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), Association of MBAs (AMBA), and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
The UMA was founded on July 18, 1972 by decree of the Andalusian Regional Government. The first four faculties were established: Arts and Humanities; Sciences; Law; and Economics and Business Administration. In subsequent years additional faculties were created: Education (1984); Experimental Sciences (1986); Health Sciences (1991); Communication Sciences (1995); Social Work and Welfare Studies(1998). Presently there are eight faculties offering undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs leading to master’s degrees or doctorates. In addition to its teaching role, the UMA carries out research in various areas through its institutes and centers. The UMA has agreements with over 300 universities worldwide which allow for student exchanges as well as cooperation on research projects.
