The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university in Norman, Oklahoma. Founded in 1890, it was originally known as the Territorial University of Oklahoma and became the state’s first land-grant university. OU is classified among “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity”. The university enrolls approximately 31,000 students on its main campus in Norman and its satellite campuses in Tulsa and Lawton. It offers 172 bachelor’s degrees, 160 master’s degrees, 75 doctorates, and 20 majors through a college of liberal arts and sciences and eight professional colleges.

The school’s athletic teams are members of the Big 12 Conference. The football team has won seven conference championships (1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919 conference co-championship; 1920 outright champions; 1950), with 17 conference titles overall. They have appeared in 28 bowl games since 1900 including 10 major bowl appearances: 3 Orange Bowls (1965 & 2003 seasons), 2 Sugar Bowls (1979 & 1980 seasons), 4 Cotton Bowl Classic games (1945 & 1947 seasons co-champions; 1948 season outright champions; 2002 season), 1 Sun Bowl game (1963 season), 1 Fiesta Bowl game (1988 season). In 2017 Bob Stoops announced his retirement from coaching after 18 years as head coach of OU football team which was taken over by former assistant Lincoln Riley.
