The University of Oregon (UO) is a public flagship research university in Eugene, Oregon. Founded in 1876, the institution’s 295-acre campus is along the Willamette River. Since July 2014, UO has been governed by the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon. The university has an enrollment of over 20,000 undergraduate and 3,700 graduate students and employs 2,600 faculty members at its main Eugene campus and state-wide campuses across Oregon. It offers bachelor’s degrees in 190 fields of study and 33 professional areas as well as masters and doctorate degrees through its five colleges: Arts and Sciences; Business; Education; Honors; and Liberal Arts & Sciences.

The Carnegie Classification designates the University of Oregon as a “highest research activity” or “R1” institution – meaning that it engages in a high level of research activity compared to other institutions nationwide. In 2017 UO was ranked No. 138 among all universities worldwide by Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings.. In 2019–2020 however, UO was not included on this list due to changes made to THE’s methodology.. According to THE rankings released September 2020, which rates global universities based on their teaching environment rather than their research output, UO placed 176th out of 200 schools worldwide—a significant drop from its previous ranking at 138th globally..

In fall 2019 there were 85 Fulbright Scholars on campus including 4 visiting scholars and 1 ETA awardee for English teaching assistantships. Additionally 5 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships were awarded to University of Oregon doctoral students during 2019–2020 school year.. The National Institutes of Health awarded $27 million dollars to UO Medical School researchers during fiscal year 2018 alone—this marks a significant increase from just $6 million NIH dollars received 10 years prior in 2008..

The average first-year student GPA at the University Of Oregon is 3.63 with an 80% retention rate for second-year students.. With regard to admissions selectivity: 55% percent of applicants are admitted each year making UO slightly less competitive than similar sized public schools such as UC Davis (52%), UC Irvine (53%), or UCLA (54%) but more competitive than large publics like Ohio State (57%) or Michigan State (66%). For Fall 2021 Admissions cycle 58%of applications were admitted totaling 22,058 applications with 12,781 acceptances.. The average ACT score composite at University Of Oregon is 28 while the average SAT score composite is 1310 making it one block below what would be considered a reach school for standardized testing scores—on par with other large publics like Rutgers(1300), Indiana(1300), Illinois(1290), or Penn State(1270) though notably higher than some peers like MichiganState(1190) or OhioState(1180). When looking only at out-of-state applicants however UO becomes much more selective with only 37% being admitted bringing the total number down to 6500 out-of state applicants with 2400 acceptances for Fall 2021 admissions cycle..
UOregon requires all freshman applicants submit either SAT or ACT scores except for those who meet specific criteria detailed here: https://admissions.uoregon.edu/sites/admissions2.prod./files/2021_First_Year_Application_Requirements_and_Recommendations_-_Final_-_111620_(1).pdf . For those submitting standardized test results strong ACT composite scores above 30or SAT Math + Reading sections above 700 will put an applicant in good standing whereas anything lower may need additional academic strength shown elsewhere on application such as within coursework difficulty or rigor levels , personal statements , letters recommendation etcetera .
