The Sussex Science Park is a business park located near the University of Sussex in Falmer, Brighton and Hove, England. The park provides office and laboratory accommodation for small businesses working in the fields of science and technology. The park is part-owned by the university, and was established in 1985.
The Sussex Science Park is located on land owned by the University of Sussex, adjacent to its main campus in Falmer. The park covers an area of 18 hectares (44 acres), and comprises a mix of offices, laboratories, workshop units, and supporting amenities. It is home to over 70 businesses, employing around 500 people.
The park has its own on-site management team responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the site. Facilities include 24-hour security, CCTV coverage, landscaped grounds, meeting rooms and conference facilities. There is also a 100Mbps fibre optic link to the JANET network.
The Sussex Science Park was established in 1985, becoming one of the first science parks in the UK. It was originally conceived as a joint venture between British Aerospace (BAe) and the University of Sussex, with BAe investing £2 million towards its construction. The first phase of development comprised 15 hectares (37 acres) of land, with BAe constructing a number buildings on site including an office block (now known as ‘One World’), an engineering workshop, and several laboratory units. These were completed in 1987,and were followed by further phases of development in 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004
