The University of Tennessee (UT) is a land-grant university located in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. It was founded in 1794 and was the first public university in the state of Tennessee. The university has beenranked among the nation’s top 100 public universities by several publications. UT offers over 700 degree programs through its 11 schools and colleges to over 28,000 students.
The school colors are orange and white, with the sports teams nicknamed the Volunteers or Vols. The university is a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The campus is situated on Fort Sanders, a prominent knoll overlooking downtown Knoxville and the Tennessee River.
