University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a public research university in Arlington, Texas. It was founded in 1895 and is part of the University of Texas System. The university has an enrollment of over 41,000 students, making it the largest institution in the UT System by student population. UTA is classified as a Carnegie Research-Intensive university and is one of only 115 universities nationwide to hold this distinction. The university offers more than 180 degree programs across 11 colleges and schools, including engineering, business, nursing, architecture, liberal arts, and education.

UTA is home to numerous research centers and institutes, including the Institute for Sustainability and Energy Efficiency (ISEES), the Center for Nanoscale Science & Technology (CNST), and the Center for Transportation Equity Decision Making (CTEDM). The university also operates two hospitals: Arlington Memorial Hospital and Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital. In 2019, UTA was ranked as the 4th most innovative school in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and was named a “Future Ready” institution by Microsoft Corporation.

The history of University of Texas at Arlington dates back to 1895 when it was established as a military college known as Arlington Military Academy (AMA). AMA began offering collegiate-level coursework in 1913 and became accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1925. In 1959, AMA merged with nearby Grand Prairie Junior College to form Arlington State College (ASC). ASC joined The University of Texas System in 1965 which resulted in its name change to University of Texas at Arlington or UTA . Since joining UT system , UTA has experienced tremendous growth especially during past two decades . On May 7 2014 , President Obama delivered commencement speech at UTA’s College Park Center where he congratulated graduating class while lauding University’s role “in training tomorrow’s workforce.” Today , over 41000 students representing all 50 states & 127 nations attend classes on main campus located near downtown Arlington . With nearly 3000 faculty members ,Uta provides rich learning environment & opportunities for hands on experience through cutting edge research facilities like Makerspace @ Central Library & interdisciplinary labs like Health Innovation Living Lab . As one fo eight Universities comprising UT system ,UTA stands out for its dedication towards research & innovation . For instance NanoTech institute which is affiliated with CNST conducts groundbreaking work that helps solve some big challenges facing our world today like developing new cancer treatments or improving solar energy cells . ISEES focuses on sustainability issues such as water conservation while CTEDM works on developing models that can help decision makers create more equitable transportation systems taking into account factors such race & ethnicity .
