The University of Twente (UT) is a public research university located in Enschede, the Netherlands. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in engineering, sciences, social sciences, business administration, and liberal arts and management. The UT has over 10,000 students from over 100 countries enrolled in its programs. The university is renowned for its hands-on approach to education and research, which has led to numerous partnerships with industry and other universities around the world.

The University of Twente was founded in 1961 as the Technische Hogeschool Twente (THT). THT was established by the Dutch government as a response to the growing need for technical education in the Netherlands. The school initially focused on providing training for engineers and technicians. In 1967, THT began offering bachelor’s degrees in engineering. In 1974, THT was renamed the Universiteit Twente (UT), reflecting its new status as a full-fledged university offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

UT is organized into eight faculties: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science; Social Sciences; Behavioural Sciences; Management & Governance; Communication Science; and Geo-Information Science & Earth Observation. Each faculty is further divided into departments specializing in specific disciplines. For example, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering includes departments devoted to electrical power systems engineering and electronic materials science.

UT’s campus is located just outside of Enschede on a site that was formerly occupied by an artillery barracks known as Fort Blommenstein . The university’s buildings are clustered around a central green space known as “De Grote Markt.” The campus includes several notable buildings such as the Horst Tower , which houses the Faculty of Social Sciences ; Cubicus , which houses the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences ; Collinium , home to the Faculty of Mathematics & Computer Science ; Ravelijn , housing various administrative functions ; Zilverberk , home to student services ; Waaier , containing lecture halls and auditoria ; Atlas , where most of UT’s scientific research takes place ; Mesa+ , one of Europe’s largest nanotechnology research institutes; MetaForum , containing computer labs and classrooms; Zeelandzaal , used for conferences and events; Futura Plaza  and Het Ei van Koert  which provide additional study space for students .

The University Of Twente places great emphasis on small-scale living environments within reach of all amenities . There are three types  of accommodation available for students : self-catered apartments at De Drege or De Burcht residences or rooms within one of UT’s 18 catered complexes at De Berkt or Drienerloseiland . These locations offer short commute times so you can enjoy more free time – or use it productively by studying onsite before heading off to lectures each day! If you prefer not live with fellow students then there are also options available nearby including renting from private landlords or finding a room via websites like Kamernet . Regardless of where you choose to live while studying at UT you will have access support services like Campus Support who can help with any problems that may arise during your stay here in Enschede .
