The University of Victoria (UVic) is a public research university located in the Canadian city of Victoria, British Columbia. The school was founded in 1963 and is the oldest university in British Columbia. UVic has nine faculties and offers more than 170 programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level. The school also has an affiliated teaching hospital, the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
UVic’s campus is located on a beautiful peninsula adjacent to downtown Victoria and surrounded by ocean and mountains. The school offers students a unique learning experience with access to world-class facilities and researchers. UVic is also home to Canada’s largest co-operative education program which provides students with paid work experience related to their field of study.
UVic’s research strengths include health sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences, humanities, business, law, engineering, and education. The school has produced numerous Nobel Prize winners including David Suzuki (co-recipient of the 1975 Nobel Peace Prize), Michael Smith (co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Prize in Chemistry), and John Polanyi (co-recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry).
The University of Victoria is consistently ranked as one of Canada’s top universities and is a member of the prestigious Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC).
