Founded in 1943, UT Southwestern Medical Center is one of the leading academic medical centers in the United States. Located in Dallas, Texas, UT Southwestern is home to more than 2,000 faculty members and over 3,700 full-time students. The Medical Center comprises six schools: Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Health Professions, Nursing, Public Health, and Graduate Studies.
UT Southwestern’s primary mission is to provide excellent patient care and to advance biomedical knowledge through research and education. The Medical Center offers a full range of outpatient and inpatient services for adult and pediatric patients. Our hospitals include Parkland Memorial Hospital – one of the nation’s busiest Level I trauma centers – as well as Zale Lipshy University Hospital and William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. In addition to our hospitals, we operate more than 80 clinics throughout North Texas that offer primary care and specialty services close to where our patients live and work.
We are committed to providing the highest quality medical education possible. Our goal is to train the next generation of physician-scientists who will be leaders in their fields while also providing compassionate patient care. To that end, we offer a wide range of educational programs at all levels: from summer camps for high school students interested in science or medicine to residency training for physicians looking to specialize in a particular area of medicine or research interest. We also offer continuing medical education courses for practicing physicians and other health care professionals.
Our research enterprise ranks among the top five percent of all institutions worldwide according receiving competitive federal funding from NIH National Institutes of Health). We are home to four Nobel Laureates – including two who currently serve on our faculty – and our researchers have made groundbreaking discoveries that have improved the lives of millions around the world
