Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer who has been President of Russia since 2012, previously holding the position from 1999 until his resignation in 2008. He was also Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012. During his last term as Prime Minister, he was also Chairman of the United Russia Party, which holds a majority of seats in the State Duma.
