Geology (from the Ancient Greek γῆ, gē (“earth”) and -λoγία, -logia, (“study of”, “discourse”)) is an earth science concerned with the solid Earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the processes by which they change over time. Geologists study geology to learn about our planet’s history, composition, and structure. This information helps us to better understand natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, as well as providing useful resources such as minerals and oil.
