The University of Zurich (UZH, German: Universität Zürich) is a public research university in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 1833, it is the oldest university in Switzerland and counts among the leading institutions of higher education in the country. It was ranked as the best university for employment prospects by The Economist in 2018 and among Europe’s top 20 universities by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.
With 31,535 students from over 190 countries enrolled at UZH, it is one of eight Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland and one of the largest research-intensive universities with a broad international outlook. The main campus is located on Limmatquai on the left bank of Lake Zurich. Additionally, there are seven associated faculties scattered around greater Zurich Area including financial center downtown, Winterthur Technology Park northeast of Zurich and clinical centers such as Balgrist hospital or Irchel campus on hilltop above city center offering panoramic views over Zurich.
