Brain Injury

Brain injury refers to damage to the brain. It can be caused by physical trauma, such as a blow to the head, or by conditions that result in a loss of oxygen to the brain, such as stroke or drowning. Brain injuries can also be caused by exposure to toxins, such as lead or mercury. Symptoms of brain injury include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating and remembering things, mood swings, and depression. In severe cases, brain injury can result in coma or death. Brain injuries are treated with a combination of medical and rehabilitation therapies. The goal of treatment is to help the individual regain as much function as possible.
