Cornell University is a private Ivy League research university located in Ithaca, New York. Founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White, the university was intended to teach and make contributions in all fields of knowledge – from the classics to the sciences, and from the theoretical to the applied. These ideals continue to this day as Cornell strives to fulfill its land-grant mission of improving the quality of life for all.

One of America’s leading research universities, Cornell offers world-class facilities and resources across all fields of study. With over 100 majors and more than 80 minors, students can tailor their education to suit their individual interests and goals. The faculty includes Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, MacArthur Fellows, National Academy members, Fulbright Scholars, Guggenheim Fellows, and many more distinguished scholars.

Cornell’s beautiful campus is home to seven undergraduate colleges: Arts & Sciences; Agriculture & Life Sciences; Architecture, Art & Planning; Engineering; Hotel Administration; Human Ecology; and Industrial & Labor Relations. The graduate school offers over 80 degree programs spanning arts & sciences, business, engineering, law, medicine (Weill Cornell Medicine), veterinary medicine (Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine), and other health sciences. In addition to these academic units, Cornell also operates two coeducational residential colleges (West Campus House System and East Campus House System), four affiliated medical schools (Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City; Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences; Weill Bugherd Hospital in Qatar; and Cayuga Medical Center), as well as over 100 research centers and institutes.

With an endowment of over $6 billion , Cornell is one among a handful of American universities with the resources necessary to sustain comprehensive programs of excellence in all areas of endeavor . The university’s annual operating budget is approximately $3 billion .
