Germany is a country located in Central Europe. It borders Denmark to the north, Poland and the Czech Republic to the east, Austria and Switzerland to the south, and France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands to the west. Germany covers an area of 357,386 square kilometers (137,988 sq mi) and has a population of over 82 million people.

The territory of Germany can be divided into two distinct geographical regions: Northern Germany and Southern Germany. The boundary between these two regions is formed by the Rhine River which flows from west to east through the middle of the country. The northern part of Germany is dominated by lowland plains while the southern part is mountainous.

Germany has a temperate climate with average annual temperatures ranging from 3 °C (37 °F) in North Frisia on the North Sea coast to 10 °C (50 °F) in Bavaria on the southern border with Austria. The country experiences four distinct seasons: summer, autumn, winter, and spring.

Germany’s economy is one of the largest in Europe and it is also very diversified with sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, services, and tourism all playing important roles. The German economy is export-oriented with exports accounting for around 46% of GDP in 2017. Major exports include motor vehicles, machinery & equipment, chemicals & pharmaceuticals as well as food & beverages. Agriculture accounts for around 1% of GDP but employs around 5% of Germany’s workforce making it an important sector of the economy despite its relatively small size.

Some of Germany’s most famous companies include automobile manufacturers Mercedes-Benz & BMW; chemical giants BASF & Bayer; engineering firms Siemens & Daimler AG; electronics manufacturer Bosch; fashion labels Hugo Boss & Adidas; food retailers Aldi & Lidl; supermarket chain Edeka; retailer Metro Group; software companies SAP SE & Sage Group; telecommunications provider Deutsche Telekom AG; utility company EON SE ;and insurance companies Allianz SE& Munich Re . Tourism also plays an important role in Germany’s economy with over 38 million foreign visitors coming to experience sights such as Cologne Cathedral , Berlin ‘s Brandenburg Gate , Hamburg ‘s harbor , or Munich ‘s Oktoberfest each year . In terms of education , there are over 400 higher education institutions in Germany including world-renowned universities such as Heidelberg University , Ludwig Maximilian Universityof Munich , Technical Universityof Munich , Ruprecht Karl Universityof Heidelberg
