Hiroshima University (広島大学, Hiroshima daigaku), located in Higashi-ku, Hiroshima, is one of the leading comprehensive universities in Japan. The university was founded as an imperial university in 1937. Hiroshima University has eight faculties with a total of around 28,000 students.
The School of Science at Hiroshima University comprises six departments: Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; Earth and Planetary Sciences; Biological Sciences; and Information Science and Electrical Engineering. In addition to these departments, there are also five interdisciplinary research centers.
The School of Science has a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching, dating back to the founding of the university. Many of the school’s alumni have gone on to become prominent scientists, engineers, and medical doctors.
Research conducted at the School of Science is internationally recognized for its high quality. The school is home to several world-renowned researchers, including Nobel Laureates Sir Harold Kroto and Toshihide Maskawa.
The school offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs that cover all major fields of science. Undergraduate programs include physics, chemistry, mathematics, earth sciences, information science, electrical engineering, and biology. Graduate programs are offered in all major fields of science except information science and electrical engineering.
