What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that allows artists, musicians, filmmakers, and other creative professionals to raise money for their projects from the general public. Kickstarter has helped to finance over 100,000 projects since its launch in 2009, including films, video games, books, comics, and more.

How does Kickstarter work?

Project creators create a campaign on the Kickstarter website and set a funding goal and deadline. backers can then pledge money to support the project. If the project reaches its funding goal before the deadline, the creator receives the funds; if not, no money changes hands. backers are typically rewarded with exclusive access to or early versions of the project they’ve supported.

Why use Kickstarter?

For project creators, Kickstarter offers a way to fund their projects without having to rely on traditional sources of funding like banks or venture capitalists. For backers, it’s an opportunity to support creativity and get involved in new projects at an early stage. And since all pledges are made through Amazon Payments or PayPal—and all payments are processed only after a project meets its funding goal—backers never have to worry about being charged for a pledge they didn’t want to make or that wasn’t fulfilled by the creator.
