The Kitami Institute of Technology (北見工業大学, Kitami Kōgyō Daigaku) is a national university in the city of Kitami, Hokkaido, Japan. The institute was established in 1907 as a technical school and became a polytechnic college in 1949. It achieved university status in 2004. As of 2020, the university has around 4,800 students enrolled across six faculties.

The Kitami Institute of Technology is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Japan. It has produced many notable alumni including two Nobel laureates: Hideki Shirakawa and Hiroshi Amano. The university is also home to the world-renowned Kitami Laboratory, which is one of the leading research centers for semiconductor materials and devices in Japan.

The Kitami Institute of Technology is nationally recognized for its strong programs in engineering and science. The institute offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, materials science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, informatics, and environmental studies. The university also operates several specialized research institutes such as the Institute for Materials Research and the Institute for Advanced Energy Technologies.
