Lego

by Liam O'Connor

In 1932, Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen started making wooden toys in his carpentry workshop. He named his company LEGO, based on the Danish words “leg godt,” meaning “play well.” In 1934, LEGO began producing plastic toys, which became wildly popular. It wasn’t until 1949 that LEGO began producing the interlocking blocks that are now known around the world.

Today, LEGO is beloved by children and adults alike. The colorful bricks can be used to build just about anything imaginable. And with new sets and themes released regularly, there’s always something new to create.

LEGO has come a long way since its humble beginnings in a small Danish workshop. What started as a simple toy company has grown into a global phenomenon, with billions of LEGO bricks sold each year. There’s even a Lego Movie!

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just getting started, there’s no doubt that LEGO is here to stay. So what are you waiting for? Grab some bricks and start building!
