Newcastle University is a world-leading research university in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1834 as the School of Medicine and Surgery, and later renamed Newcastle University in 1925. The university has four main campuses located in different parts of England: Newcastle upon Tyne, London, Birmingham, and Manchester.
The university is organized into nine faculties: Arts and Humanities; Business, Economics and Law; Education, Lifelong Learning and Social Sciences; Engineering and Physical Sciences; Health and Life Sciences; Medical Sciences; Natural Sciences; Newcastle University International Centre for Life (including the Institute for Ageing); and Science, Agriculture and Environment. Additionally, there are a number of interdisciplinary research institutes and centers affiliated with the university.
Newcastle University has consistently been ranked among the top 20 universities in the United Kingdom by various national league tables. In 2020, it was ranked 14th overall by The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide and 15th by The Complete University Guide. It was also ranked 11th in Europe for employability by THE Global Employability Ranking 2020
With over 34,000 students enrolled across its four campuses, Newcastle University is one of the largest universities in the UK.
