San Jose State University (SJSU) is a public university in San Jose, California. Founded in 1857 as the California State Normal School, SJSU is the oldest public university on the West Coast and the third-oldest university in California. SJSU is one of the largest universities in the United States by enrollment with over 32,000 students and 1,800 faculty members.
SJSU offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 134 areas of study with 108 concentrations and five credential programs. The university also offers two joint doctoral degree programs and one independent doctoral program as of Fall 2015. San Jose State University operates on a semester system with two regular academic semesters being held each year – Fall and Spring – along with a Winter Intersession and Summer Sessions.
