Sharks

Sharks

Sharks are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a streamlined body. They range in size from the largest, the whale shark, to the smallest, the dwarf lanternshark. There are more than 500 species of sharks ranging in size, habitat, and diet.

The majority of sharks live in marine environments, though a few species such as the river shark can be found in freshwater habitats. Most sharks are carnivorous and feed on smaller fish and invertebrates, though some larger species also eat turtles, seals, seabirds, and even other sharks.
Sharks have been around for hundreds of millions of years and play an important role in ocean ecosystems. However, they are also one of the most misunderstood animals on Earth due to their reputation as dangerous predators. In reality, only a handful of shark species pose a threat to humans and fatalities are rare.

Despite their fearsome reputation, sharks are fascinating creatures that deserve our respect and protection.
