Solar cells are usually made from silicon, which is a very good material for absorbing sunlight. However, other materials can be used as well, such as cadmium telluride and copper indium selenide. The choice of material depends on the application for which the solar cell will be used. For example, cadmium telluride is better suited for use in thin-film solar panels because it absorbs more light than silicon does. Copper indium selenide is better suited for use in photovoltaic (PV) cells because it has a higher conversion efficiency than silicon does (meaning it can convert more sunlight into electricity).
