SpaceX is an American aerospace manufacturer, founded in 2002 by CEO Elon Musk. He is the founder, CEO, and CTO of SpaceX. The company has an active launch manifest for 38 launches: 27 for NASA, six for other government partners including Secure World Foundation and Al Yah Satellite Communications Company, and six launches of its own Falcon family of rockets. IThe company’s first launch: Falcon 1, took place in March 2006 from Omelek Island in the Kwajalein Atoll.
SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded to revolutionize space technology with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.
SpaceX designs highly advanced rockets and spacecraft for NASA, commercial customers and the US Military. SpaceX’s ultimate goal is to make it possible for people to extend life beyond Earth.
The company’s first product was Falcon 1, a small rocket designed to be low cost but also highly reliable. It made history in March 2006 as the first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to reach orbit! Following that success came Falcon 9 which made headlines around the world when it delivered Dragon – SpaceX’s first spacecraft – into orbit in December 2010 not only proving that reusable spacecraft are possible but making Dragon the first privately built craft to ever rendezvous with and dock at the International Space Station!
Today SpaceX continues work on perfecting reuse of both stages of their two stage orbital class rocket system – Falcon 9 – as well as testing new versions like Falcon Heavy that can carry even more payload mass or lift heavier satellites into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). Additionally they are also developing a next generation fully reusable vehicle called Raptor that will power both their Mars ambitions as well as providing an incredibly powerful option for lifting very heavy payloads into low Earth orbit (LEO) or GTO.”
