Ulysses (οὖλις, Ὀδυσσεύς) is a legendary Greek king of Ithaca and the hero of Homer’s epic poem Odyssey. Ulysses’ wife Penelope and son Telemachus must deal with a group of unruly suitors, the Proci, who compete for Penelope’s hand in marriage. In an attempt to rid his house of them, Ulysses feigns madness and leaves for Sparta; on his return he slaughtersthem.
