The University of Dayton (UD) is a private university in Dayton, Ohio. Founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary (Marianists), it is one of three Marianist universities in the nation and the largest private university in Ohio. UD’s campus is located in the city’s southern portion and spans 388 acres on both sides of River Road. The main campus contains more than 80 buildings, with over 300 classrooms and laboratories. The university also operates nine off-campus research centers and two branch campuses.

UD offers more than 100 undergraduate programs and 60 graduate programs through seven schools: Arts and Sciences; Business Administration; Education and Health Sciences; Engineering; Humanities, Social Sciences and Mathematics; Law; and Religion and Society. The school’s athletic teams compete as members of the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. The Flyers have won ten conference championships since joining the A-10 in 1995, as well as one national championship in men’s volleyball (NCAA Division III, 1973).

More than 85 percent of UD students are from Ohio, with out-of-state representation from all 50 states and nearly 70 countries. Nearly 60 percent of undergraduates reside on campus, most in one of 29 residence halls or apartments. More than 13 percent of UD students are members of racial or ethnic minority groups. Women make up 57 percent of undergraduates and nearly half of all graduate students enrolled at UD.
