Situated in the heart of Australia’s second largest city, the University of Melbourne is a comprehensive research-intensive university ranked among the world’s top 50. Founded in 1853, the University was the first higher education institution in Australia. Today, we are home to more than 44,000 students from over 140 countries, making us one of Australia’s most cosmopolitan universities. Our graduates go on to make a difference in communities around the world.

The University has an international reputation for excellence in research and teaching across a broad range of disciplines. We offer more than 280 undergraduate programs and postgraduate coursework programs across 19 faculties and institutes. Our research strength is reflected in our performance in global university rankings where we are consistently placed among the world’s top 50 institutions. In addition to this, we offer unique research opportunities through our graduate schools and centres of excellence. The University is located on two campuses: Parkville – our main campus which is situated just north of Melbourne’s CBD;and Southbank – our urban campus which houses our Victorian College of Arts (VCA) & Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM). We also have several off-campus sites including Dookie Agricultural Campus near Shepparton; Werribee Open Range Zoo south-west of Melbourne; Burnley Horticultural Campus east of Melbourne; Creswick Forest Discovery Centre west of Ballarat; Healesville Sanctuary northeast of Yarra Valley; Phillip Island Nature Parks south-east Gippsland; Royal Botanic GardensVictoria at Cranbourne; State Rose Garden at Werribee Park Mansion ;and The Ian Potter Foundation Children’s Garden at The Domain central parklands.. All these beautiful locations give our students ample opportunity to get involved with nature while pursuing their studies.
We also have extensive partnerships with industry, government and community organisations which provide unique learning experiences for our students that prepare them for successful careers after graduation
