The University of Reading was founded in 1892 as a technical institute. It gained full university status in 1926, making it one of the newest universities in the UK. The University of Reading is committed to providing an outstanding student experience. We offer support throughout your studies, including advice on careers, personal tutors and welfare provision. Our Student Union runs over 200 clubs and societies covering everything from music to politics – there really is something for everyone! There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in sport through our Athletic Union or take part in volunteering projects both locally and internationally through our Students’ Union Volunteering Society (SUVS).
Living costs are generally lower than those in London but still provide access to all the amenities you would expect from a major city – shopping centres, cinemas, theatres etc.. There are also lots of green spaces nearby if you want to escape the hustle and bustle – Forbury Gardens adjacent to campus is particularly popular with students! If you do want to venture into London then there are regular trains running direct from Reading station which takes around 30 minutes.”
