The University of Geneva (UniGe) is a public research university located in Geneva, Switzerland. Founded in 1559 by John Calvin as a theological seminary, it remains today an internationally respected institution of higher learning with a particular commitment to internationalism and multilingualism.

With over 18,000 students from 147 different countries, UniGe is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan universities. It offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs in a wide range of disciplines through seven faculties: Arts, Business and Economics, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences and Theology.

UniGe has long been recognized for the excellence of its teaching and research. In the 2020 QS World University Rankings it was ranked 85th globally and 4th among Swiss universities. It is also home to numerous renowned centers of excellence such as the CERN particle physics laboratory, one of the world’s leading centers for medical research at the University Hospitals of Geneva or the Graduate Institute of International Studies.

The University of Geneva is firmly committed to social responsibility and plays an active role in promoting sustainable development both locally and globally. As part of its engagement with society at large, UniGe provides financial support to a number projects aimed at tackling social inequalities or preserving our planet’s natural resources.
