Forschungszentrum Juelich is one of the largest research centres in Europe and is located in Juelich, Germany. It was founded in 1956 as a nuclear research centre and has since become a world-leading institution for scientific research in a wide range of disciplines, including energy, health, information technology, materials science, and environment. Forschungszentrum Juelich employs over 5,000 people from more than 60 countries and collaborates with partner institutions around the world.

The centre’s work is organised into five main divisions: Energy & Climate; Health & Environment; Information Technology; Materials Science & Engineering; and Structural Biology & Biophysics. Each division comprises a number of institutes and facilities that carry out cutting-edge research in their respective fields. Forschungszentrum Juelich also operates a number of large-scale facilities that are used by scientists from all over the world, such as the PET/CT scanner at the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-9) or the cryo-electron microscope at the Electron Microscopy Centre (EMC).
