The University of Guelph (U of G) is a comprehensive public research university in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The University offers over 94 undergraduate degrees, 48 graduate programs, and 6 associate’s degrees in a wide variety of disciplines. Guelph has a student population of over 27,000, including full-time and part-time students. The University of Guelph has been ranked 4th in Canada for employability and 1st among medium-sized universities.

Founded in 1964 by the amalgamation of Ontario Agricultural College, the Macdonald Institute, and the Ontario Veterinary College, the University of Guelph was established as “Ontario’s first public university college dedicated to life sciences”. The new institution was located on the outskirts of the city of Guelph on lands donated by the provincial government; its first chancellor was James Aird Nesbitt and its founding president was Alastair Sweeny. With Macdonald Campus in Montreal also affiliated with UofGuelph since 1967 (when McGill University divested itself from that campus), UofGuelph is one of Canada’s oldest universities with two main campuses – one urban and one rural – as well as several associated colleges spread across Southwestern Ontario.

The current president is Charlotte Yates who took office on July 1st, 2017 succeeding Franco Vaccarino who had served since 2010. Prior to her appointment at UofGuelph she was Provost & Vice President Academic at McMaster University where she also held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Gender & Equity Studies in Education & Workforce Training.
A central feature throughout all aspects at UofGuelph is an emphasis placed on experiential learning opportunities which are available to both undergraduate and graduate students through various co-operative education programs (co-op), internships placements within businesses or organizations related to their field(s) study/research interests as well apprenticeships for skilled trades students enrolled certain programs offered at our Affiliated Colleges such as Wellington College Shadybrook . These work terms are typically completed during scheduled academic breaks however some arrangements can be made for full-time placement during regular semesters depending upon availability/approval from program coordinators/employers respectively . For international students there are many off-campus employment options available year round through special permission from Citizenship

Immigration Services Canada – this allows individuals to gain valuable Canadian work experience while studying which can lead to postgraduate opportunities following graduation . There are numerous other ways get involved both on & off campus whether it’s through volunteering , leadership roles , joining clubs & societies or taking advantage cultural events & attractions happening around downtown Guelph such participating Fall Fest annual event put together by Downtown Business Association celebrates everything local including food , artisans while providing live entertainment stages set up along busy streets . It should also be noted that being situated just under 100km away from Toronto gives students ability explore all what big city has offer without having live there making commute relatively easy especially via Highway 6 running North East direction connecting directly Hwy 401 making road trip down Niagara Falls possible day trip !
