The University of Waterloo (UW) is a public research university with a main campus in Waterloo, Ontario. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as professional degrees. UW is one of Canada’s leading research universities, and is ranked 4th among Canadian universities for research intensity by Research Infosource.

Founded in 1957, UW was the first university in North America to be established as a co-operative education institution. This unique model integrates academic study with paid work experience, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience while completing their degree.

UW is home to over 36,000 students from more than 100 countries, making it one of the most diverse campuses in Canada. The university has produced some of Canada’s best known entrepreneurs, including Mike Lazaridis (co-founder of BlackBerry) and David Cheriton (co-founder of Google).

UW has a strong reputation for excellence in computer science and engineering, and has been ranked 1st in Canada for these disciplines by Maclean’s magazine for 23 consecutive years. The university is also home to the world’s largest cooperative education program, which provides students with paid work experience related to their field of study.

Waterloo graduates are highly sought after by employers, and have some of the highest starting salaries among all Canadian universities. In fact, according to Statistics Canada data from 2015, UW graduates had the 2nd highest median salary among all Canadian postsecondary graduates aged 25-34.
