New York University (NYU) is a private research university in New York City. Founded in 1831 as the University of the City of New York, NYU’s main campus is centered on Washington Square in Greenwich Village with its notorious arch and adjacent to the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Union Square. Undergraduate programs at NYU are highly competitive with an acceptance rate below 15%. To be eligible for admission applicants must submit standardized test scores (SAT/ACT), high school transcripts , letters recommendation ,and a personal essay . Admitted students generally have strong grades (>90th percentile) and standardized test scores (>80th percentile).

first year undergraduates are required to live on -campus but have the option to move off -campus after their sophomore year . Housing options range from traditional dormitories style living to apartment -style suites depending on what you are looking for . Many students take advantage of NYC’s attractions during their time here by exploring different neighborhoods or going out to shows/events/museums etc. on weekends . Of course being located in such a large city comes with some challenges like finding affordable housing or navigating public transportation but overall most students enjoy taking advantage everything that NYC has offer !
